Running a business with passion, taking care of people, animals and the planet.

When you walk into Yeah Hair Baby , a hairdressing salon in Sydney’s Inner West, one of the first things you’ll notice is the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The walls are brightly coloured , and the conversations between the hairdressers and their clients are animated.

But the warm atmosphere doesn’t end there: the staff will offer you coffee, and the business has been one of those rare places for many years, that let you take your dog in with you.

The award winning business has been owned by the dynamic Teri Richards for 18 years. She’s been in hairdressing for 38 years, and this is her passion. You can see it and hear it when she speaks about what she does.

Recently, she took some time out of her very busy schedule to speak to me about what’s worked for her business, and some of the radical changes around sustainability and vegan products happening in hairdressing.

I hope you enjoy this two part feature on the strangers we let get intimate with us .

Part 1: A passion for hair and surviving a pandemic
Part 2: Looking out for the environment, animals and what about that Mullet?

We physically touch people –more than anyone in the world does. Like you think about it, do you let your doctor touch you in your bubble for two hours at a time? No. So with a hairdresser , you either have to let down your walls and you make that connection, or it doesn’t work.
